2011 Tour de Farms Sunday, September 18th, 2011 - Great Riding and Great Food

This year's Tour de Farms attracted a record number of bicyclists: 581. It was a glorious day filled with sunshine, great food, stunning scenery, toe-tapping music, and the camaraderie of bicyclists having a wonderful time in the great Vermont outdoors. The VBPC and co-organizers Rural Vermont and ACORN are grateful to sponsors Earl's Cyclery & Fitness, Wolaver's Organic Brewery, American Flatbread, and the Vermont Fresh Network. Below are a few photos that give a glimpse of this special day.

2009 TOUR DE FARMS
Last year’s Tour de Farms proved so popular that organizers have scheduled another for Sunday, September 20, 2009. The Coalition, Rural Vermont, and ACoRN will again offer three routes (10, 25, and 30 miles) that depart from and return to Shoreham. Bicyclists will enjoy a variety of food samples from farms located along the routes. In 2008, samples included bread, cheese, chili, yogurt, cider, apples, and quiche. There will be some additions this year, including food and a celebration at the finish as riders arrive back in Shoreham.
More information and registration details will be included in the next issue of the newsletter, but please mark your calendars for September 20. Last year, 250 riders had a fabulous time!

2008 TOUR DE FARMS

Join us in Shoreham on Sunday, September 21 for the first running of "Le Tour de Farms" in Addison County! Choose between a 10, 25 and 30-mile route (see below). Then sample fresh apples, pesto, cheese, wine, cider and milk, and bread and cookies at local farms along the way and at the local inn. Take your time and enjoy the beautiful fall landscapes of Shoreham by the lake while exercising in the fresh air and not emitting any carbon!

Meet us at the Shoreham Village green–rain or shine—and check-in at 10:30 AM with your bike, helmet, and water (you can refill at any of the stops) and wear comfortable clothes. Bring a raincoat in the event of wind or rain. And bring a bag if you'd like to buy anything along the way from one of the farms (or you can arrange with the farm to pick it up after the ride).
Le Tour de Farms is presented by the Vermont Bicycle and Pedestrian Coalition (VBPC), the Addison County Localvores (ACoRN) and Rural Vermont.

Each route includes travel on rural, dirt roads.
Route 1: A 10-mile loop over rolling hills and flat sections.  50% dirt roads.
Route 2: A 25-mile ride on a mix of paved and scenic Class 4 back-roads for the more adventurous rider. Cross-bike or mountain bike highly recommended.  50% dirt roads.
Route 3: A 30-mile ride down to Orwell featuring more paved roads.  30% dirt roads.

Download the map of all three routes here.
