The 2nd Annual Bike/Ped Business Forum
The 2nd Annual Bike/Ped Business Forum, held in Montpelier on October 27, attracted 46 participants from bike shops, touring companies, bike clubs, B&Bs, state government, manufacturers and advocacy groups. This was a significant increase from the 18 who at- tended the first year. In 2011, the Coalition plans to expand the invitation list to include legislators, staff of regional planning commissions, the Vermont League of Cities and Towns, and others. The purpose of the Forum is to foster collaboration among sectors of the bike/ped world in order to get more people bicycling, walking, and running safely in Vermont. If you know of someone who should be invited next year, please let the VBPC know. (Photo courtesy of Anne Ferguson)
Bike/Ped Business Forum Debuts in 2009 On October 29, the Coalition hosted a group of leaders from the bike/ped business community. Owners and managers of bike shops and bicycle touring companies came together with repre sentatives from mountain and road biking advocacy organizations. The topics that were discussed included the status of bike/ped infrastructure in Vermont (especially roadway shoulders), recent and upcoming legislative efforts, funding for municipal bike/ped projects, the VBPC’s educational and advocacy initiatives, and communication and cooperation within the bike/ped community. The Coalition is grateful to VBT Biking and Walking Vacations for providing lunch for attendees. An expanded version of the Bike/Ped Business Forum, involving more stakeholders, will be held in October, 2010.
