Nancy Schulz

Nancy Schulz, Executive Director

Nancy Schulz became the Executive Director of the VBPC on September 25, 2006. A passion for outdoor recreation has energized her for 30 years. As a volunteer, Nancy has led over 300 outings for the Green Mountain Club, Stowe Bike Club, Appalachian Mountain Club, and American Youth Hostels. In 1992, she bicycled across the United States from Washington state to Washington, D.C. to raise money for grassroots groups engaged in community development work in various small towns. Prior to embarking on the BikeAid ride, Nancy personally raised over $5,000 to fund grants for these community initiatives.

Nancy first discovered the joys of bicycling in Vermont in the early 80s while vacationing. Subsequent trips to Vermont to hike, bicycle, and cross country ski caused her to fall in love with this beautiful state and re-locate here in 1993. For five years, Nancy was employed as a tour leader for Vermont Bicycle Touring and Hiking Holidays.

Professionally, she has worked as an editor and production manager in book publishing and as a sales promotion manager and a marketing manager for three Fortune 500 companies. She also has worked for the National Wildlife Federation and for the Vermont Department of Health.

From 2001 to 2003, Nancy served fulltime in AmeriCorps, the domestic Peace Corps, working of behalf of senior citizens in central Vermont. She then joined the staff of the Central Vermont Council on Aging where she coordinated the AmeriCorps and Senior Companion Programs as well as fundraising for this private, nonprofit agency.

In her free time, Nancy teaches ballroom dancing and enjoys bicycling, hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing, and backcountry skiing in the Green Mountains. She lives in Montpelier with her partner, Anne Ferguson, and their tortoise-shell cat, Ruby.
