NOVEMBER 2001 ANNUAL MEETING

Montpelier: Tuesday, November 14, 2001

Attending: Richard Bernstein, Pat Heffernan, Phil Hammerslough, Bruce Cunningham, Jan McCleery, Bud Haas, Kathy Davidow, Walter McNeil, Jean Coello, Anne Kaplan, Jon Kaplan, Amy Bell, Karl Rimmer (?), Ellen Miles, Armando Coello, George Plumb, David Jacobowitz, Bob Atchinson.

Meeting Called to Order: by President Bernstein at 7 PM

Quorum: Secretary certified a quorum for the Annual Meeting was present.

President’s Report: President Bernstein gave a summary of the past year’s  actions and events:

  1. Obtained 501(c)(3) tax exempt status from the IRS. This allows contributors to deduct their contributions from their taxes.
  2. Created and enhanced our electronic presence by our web site, http://www.vtbikeped.org (vtbikeped.org) and through an electronic discussion group for bicycle and pedestrian issues, VTBIKEPEDPOLICY-L.
  3. Organized and hosted the first statewide bicycle and pedestrian advocacy summit in March at VTC. Attended by about 40 advocates. Outcome: To form a statewide advocacy group.
  4. Obtained a grant from the Governor's Highway Safety Council to train five bicycle safety educators to deliver safety programs in schools. This effort is headed up by Kasie Wallace, an Americorps volunteer in Burlington, and Phil Hammerslough, a long-time bicycle advocate.
  5. Devised a workplan and carried out one fun event on the plan -- the RUMP, Ride Up Mount Philo.
  6. Continue to work with other stakeholders, such as the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, Local Motion, GMBC and VMBA, to obtain the means to hire an executive director, the main item on our plan of work.
  7. VBPC has membership from many areas of Vermont. The Board represents Orange, Rutland, Washington, Addison, and Chittenden Counties, as well as the City of Burlington.
Treasurers Report: Dave reported a balance of approx. $1000.

Election of Members to the Board of Directors: The Executive Director presented the following slate of nominees to be elected to the Board of Directors of the VBPC:

  • Bruce Cunningham
  • Connie Livingston

A MOTION was made and seconded to have the Secretary cast one ballot for the Slate. MOTION Approved.
